Electro-deionisation (EDI) treatment is based on the simultaneous application of two processes, membrane separation and ion exchange.
EDI combines semi-permeable membrane technology with ion exchange media to provide a high efficiency deionisation process.
Electro-dialysis introduces an electric potential into solution with ionised species. By applying an electric current and using special membranes that are semi-permeable to ions depending on their charge, it is possible to transport and separate the salts, which are removed in the form of a concentrated solution.
EDI treatment makes it possible to obtain highly pure industrial process water, with conductivity values significantly lower than 1 µS/cm.
This technology is used as an alternative to resin plants (mixed beds) to produce ULTRA-PURE water for the production of steam.
